The photo's display the family of Pieter Dubbelman, my great grandfather

This is Pieter Dubbelman. He was called 'Piet de snor' because of his large moustache. Born 12 June 1861 and married 1 may 1885 with Geertruida Johanna van Bavel. Piet owned a vast area of land in the Biesbosch. This land was used to grow twines called Griendhout. This woody material was used to make baskets.

The Biesbosch is an area which was flooded by the tide, the mixed salty and sweet water created the conditions for a perfect area for growing 'griendhout'. The harvesting of 'griendhout' was very harsh work and demanded many workers who stayed several days in the area. The workers worked for the 'griendbaas'.

Piet was like his father and grandfather also griendbaas. He was wealthy enough to sustain 13 children and his wife and gave his children, when they were adults, a source of living by buying them the necessary means.

This is the family of Pieter Dubbelman and his wife Geertruida Johanna van Bavel. They are sitting in front. Their children surround them. The man between the girl and Piet is Hendrik Arie, my grandfather. By pointing your mouse on their face the name appears.

	In march 1912 Hendrik Arie Dubbelman, my grandfather, was 16 years old.
	When he was eighteen years old he was an apprentice butcher. You can see him holding the horse. He assisted the butcher when he delivered meat to ...? Later he owned his own butchery. Helped by his father ho gave him money to help him buy the butchery.

To the left you can see Hendrik Arie and his wife Marie Jenetta Polak and their two first born children. Anna Maria and Pieter.The photo was probably taken in or before 1928. Anna was then 5 and Pieter 6 years old.

The photo to the left is taken by the marriage of Cornelia (Cor) Dubbelman en Wim Kaijen 5 juni 1930.

Cor is the daughter of Pieter (Piet de snor) Dubbelman and Geertruida Johanna van Bavel. The sister of my grandfather. She was the benjamin of the family.

This photo's with Hendrik Arie. He was a member of a music band. He is the man sitting with the great horn in front of him. He played that instrument.

The last Photo contains also Hendrik Arie, he is the man behind with the flat cap, second from the left.
