LEERDAM – More than twenty children whose parents or guardians regularly rely on the food bank in Leerdam received a toy package yesterday. The gift is part of a nationwide initiative by employees of courier company DHL.

In total, food banks across the country will distribute around seven thousand toy packages. At all branches of the company, employees were invited to donate second-hand toys. DHL then asked its suppliers and customers to contribute as well.

The staff of DHL aim to give the company a more “social face.” They decided to organize a collection for children living in poverty.

“The staff have done all of this in their free time,” says initiator Maithe Dubbelman. “Our goal is to make children happy and to inspire our colleagues to support good causes.”

“In addition, we try to organize a nationwide campaign every year,” says Dubbelman. She believes this year’s effort has been a success.
“The children are absolutely delighted.”
